HDFC Tata Neu Plus Credit Card
A genuinely useful card if the Tata ecosystem covers most of your monthly spending — groceries at BigBasket, electronics at Croma, clothes at Westside, medicines at Tata 1mg. The 7% NeuCoin rate on Tata brands beats most co-branded cards in its fee bracket. But that rate is strictly for Tata Neu app purchases, and everything outside Tata earns a thin 1%.

At ₹499/year, the math works only if Tata-brand purchases are at least ₹7,000 per month: that earns ₹490 NeuCoins monthly or ₹5,880 per year, easily clearing the fee. The 12-month NeuCoin expiry (effective August 2025) is the hidden gotcha — if you accumulate coins and forget to redeem, they vanish. Lounge access requires ₹50,000 quarterly spend, which most ₹499-fee cardholders will not hit consistently.
Someone who shops actively across multiple Tata brands every month and is already using the Tata Neu app as their default shopping platform.
You shop mostly on Amazon, Flipkart, or local stores — you will earn just 1% on nearly all spend, making this a ₹499/year card with no real upside.
7% on Tata Neu brands, 1% on other, 1% on UPI (cap 500/mo) · 1 NeuCoin = ₹1 · RuPay network
PROS
- Excellent for Tata shoppers (BigBasket, Croma, Westside)

CONS

- BigBasket Grocery Shopping: 7% NeuCoins on BigBasket orders placed through the Tata Neu app. At ₹5,000/month grocery spend, you earn ₹350 NeuCoins monthly — ₹4,200/year. That alone is 8.4x the annual fee. Stack with BigBasket weekend discounts for stronger savings.
- Croma Electronics Purchases: 7% NeuCoins on Croma purchases via Tata Neu. On a ₹30,000 laptop or appliance, that is ₹2,100 in NeuCoins credited immediately. Make sure to pay through the Tata Neu app — direct Croma website purchases earn only 1%.
- Tata 1mg Medicine Orders: Healthcare spend at 7% is rare among Indian credit cards. At ₹2,000/month on medicines and diagnostics via 1mg, you earn ₹140/month or ₹1,680/year. Particularly useful for families with regular prescription needs.
- Westside Apparel Shopping: 7% NeuCoins on Westside purchases is strong for a fashion category that typically earns 1-2% elsewhere. A ₹5,000 seasonal wardrobe purchase earns ₹350 NeuCoins redeemable immediately on your next Tata Neu order.
- Air India Flight Bookings: 7% NeuCoins on Air India via Tata Neu, which effectively gives ₹7 back per ₹100 spent on domestic flights. At a ₹10,000 ticket, that is ₹700 NeuCoins. Note: Air India international fares may be excluded depending on booking channel — verify at checkout.
Amazon Pay ICICI is free for life and returns 5% on Amazon Prime purchases. If a significant portion of your online shopping is on Amazon, you lose 4 percentage points versus the Tata Neu Plus rate, and you pay ₹499/year for the privilege.
HPCL Super Saver returns 2.5% on HPCL fuel plus surcharge waiver. Tata Neu Plus earns only 1% on fuel spend, which falls below even the 1.8% surcharge cost — you are effectively losing money on fuel with this card.
Non-Tata dining earns just 1% on Tata Neu Plus. Cards with dedicated dining benefits like Swiggy HDFC (10% on Swiggy, which covers restaurant orders) return 10x more on the same food spend.
IDFC FIRST Millennia is lifetime free with 2% on online spends and 1% offline. If your spending is spread across many categories with no Tata brand concentration, Millennia gives the same or better return with zero annual fee.
Covers the split between Tata ecosystem and Amazon ecosystem — the two largest online retail platforms in India. Use Tata Neu Plus for BigBasket, Croma, Westside, 1mg. Use Amazon Pay ICICI for everything on Amazon. Combined, nearly all your online shopping earns 5-7% instead of 1%.
Plugs the fuel gap that Tata Neu Plus ignores. HPCL Coral gives 2% on HPCL fuel plus surcharge waiver, bringing total annual fee to ₹999 for the pair. Tata Neu Plus handles groceries and Tata purchases, Coral handles fuel — a practical everyday combination for most Indian households.
View ICICI HPCL Coral Credit Card →If your Tata brand spend grows past ₹15,000/month, upgrading to Infinity (10% NeuCoins) from Plus (7% NeuCoins) adds ₹450/month in extra NeuCoins at that spend level. The ₹1,000 incremental fee pays for itself in 2-3 months of heavy Tata shopping.
View HDFC Tata Neu Infinity Credit Card →Do NeuCoins earned on this card expire?
Yes. As of August 2025, NeuCoins expire 12 months from the date they are credited to your Tata Neu account. If you earn 500 NeuCoins in July 2026, they must be redeemed by July 2027. Check your Tata Neu app regularly under the wallet section to track expiry dates.
Can I use this card for international transactions?
Yes, it is a RuPay card so international acceptance depends on the network. RuPay is accepted in select countries including Bhutan, Nepal, Singapore, and Mauritius. For wider international use, it is better to carry a Visa or Mastercard. The 7% NeuCoin benefit on Tata brands does not apply outside the Tata Neu app regardless of country.
Is the 7% NeuCoin rate automatic or do I need to activate it?
You must pay through the Tata Neu app for the 7% to apply. If you go directly to BigBasket.com or the standalone BigBasket app and pay with this card, you likely earn only 1%. The elevated rate is tied to the Tata Neu app payment flow, not just the merchant.
What is the annual fee waiver condition?
HDFC Bank waives the ₹499 renewal fee if you spend ₹50,000 or more in the preceding year (approximately ₹4,166/month). This is a reasonable threshold — if you are spending enough on Tata brands to justify the card, you will likely hit it.
How do I redeem NeuCoins and what are they worth?
Each NeuCoin equals ₹1 when redeemed on the Tata Neu app. You can apply them at checkout for BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Air India, and other Tata brand orders. There is usually a minimum redemption of 100 NeuCoins. You cannot transfer NeuCoins to a bank account or other loyalty programs.
Is Tanishq included in the 7% NeuCoin rate?
No. Tanishq is a Tata brand but is explicitly excluded from the elevated NeuCoin earning rate. This exclusion, which has been in place since January 2025, covers jewellery purchases — one of the larger ticket items in the Tata portfolio. Tanishq purchases earn 1% like all non-ecosystem spend.
How does this compare to using Tata Neu UPI for Tata purchases?
Tata Neu UPI (if you use a UPI credit line or linked bank account) gives different reward rates depending on your setup. The Tata Neu Plus credit card's 7% is generally higher than what you get through UPI alone, and the credit card also builds a credit history. However, if HDFC does not approve you for a credit card, the Tata Neu UPI route is the fallback.
