SBI Card ELITE vs HDFC Regalia

Compare published earn rules, redemption choices and annual fees below. A cash-value winner is not calculated for this pair because the reward model does not yet cover both products.

SBI Card ELITE

Full current source review is incomplete; the note below separates facts checked from unresolved variant terms.

SBI's current portfolio page advertises a ₹5,000 welcome voucher, movie tickets worth ₹6,000/year and up to 50,000 bonus points/year advertised at ₹12,500. Current MITC lists the ₹4,999 + tax standard renewal fee and ₹10L eligible preceding-year waiver. The issuer-hosted ELITE booklet is an older document; it describes 10 points/₹100 on dining, groceries and departmental stores with a shared 10,000-point calendar-month accelerated cap, but does not establish today's complete earning, exclusion, offer, network, lounge or redemption rules. Do not convert all points into cash or use the legacy flat-rate estimate until current card-specific terms are reconciled.

Decision checklist

  • Match the earn categories to your merchants, not just a headline multiplier.
  • Compare the redemption option you will actually use and its charges.
  • Count renewal fees unless your normal eligible spend meets the waiver.

HDFC Regalia

Listed annual fee: ₹2,500 before GST. ₹3L eligible spend in the card-anniversary year

4 Reward Points per ₹200 on eligible retail spend. HDFC lists ₹0.50/RP for eligible flight/hotel bookings, up to ₹0.35 for products/vouchers and up to ₹0.15 for statement cashback; flight/hotel redemption is capped at 50,000 points per calendar month and grocery earning at 2,000 points/month. Fuel, rent/property-management and government transactions, e-wallet loading and EasyEMI are excluded; EMI conversion reverses points. Points expire after two years, and HDFC says 365 days without card use can nullify them. Eligible purchases earn in ₹200 blocks. Grocery earning is capped at 2,000 points/month; utilities at 2,000 points/calendar month. The overall statement-cycle earning ceiling is 50,000 points. These are earning caps, not redemption limits. September 2026 HDFC MITC separately caps insurance-earned points at 2,000 per month; insurance rewards are not included in this calculator.

How to choose

Use the lower-fee option when the extra benefits would go unused. A higher-fee card needs enough additional redeemable rewards or usable benefits to cover its incremental cost. Do not treat points from different issuers as equal cash amounts.
