SBI Card ELITE vs ICICI Coral

Compare published earn rules, redemption choices and annual fees below. A cash-value winner is not calculated for this pair because the reward model does not yet cover both products.

SBI Card ELITE

Full current source review is incomplete; the note below separates facts checked from unresolved variant terms.

SBI's current portfolio page advertises a ₹5,000 welcome voucher, movie tickets worth ₹6,000/year and up to 50,000 bonus points/year advertised at ₹12,500. Current MITC lists the ₹4,999 + tax standard renewal fee and ₹10L eligible preceding-year waiver. The issuer-hosted ELITE booklet is an older document; it describes 10 points/₹100 on dining, groceries and departmental stores with a shared 10,000-point calendar-month accelerated cap, but does not establish today's complete earning, exclusion, offer, network, lounge or redemption rules. Do not convert all points into cash or use the legacy flat-rate estimate until current card-specific terms are reconciled.

Decision checklist

  • Match the earn categories to your merchants, not just a headline multiplier.
  • Compare the redemption option you will actually use and its charges.
  • Count renewal fees unless your normal eligible spend meets the waiver.

ICICI Coral

Listed annual fee: ₹500 before GST. ₹1.5L eligible anniversary-year spend; EMI excluded (MITC reversal threshold)

2 Reward Points/₹100 retail spend; 1 point/₹100 utility and insurance spend. Points are redeemable through ICICI Rewards; value varies by redemption and is not a fixed cashback rate. Eligible HPCL fuel surcharge waiver requires a ₹400–₹4,000 transaction on an ICICI Merchant Services terminal; this is not fuel reward earning. MITC eligible-spend ceilings per statement cycle: utilities and insurance ₹40,000 each, grocery/departmental stores ₹20,000, and transportation ₹10,000. These are spend ceilings, not cashback limits. Reward value depends on the selected redemption; no fixed cash conversion is modelled.

How to choose

Use the lower-fee option when the extra benefits would go unused. A higher-fee card needs enough additional redeemable rewards or usable benefits to cover its incremental cost. Do not treat points from different issuers as equal cash amounts.
